Frequently Asked Questions

How much will it cost?

£40 per session. Concessions are available in certain circumstances.

How long does each session last?

The sessions last for 50 minutes (known as the therapeutic hour) but the first session may be a little longer.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends entirely on what is best for you. Some people find that they feel better after only a few sessions whereas others need to come for longer. You will have complete control and we can regularly discuss progress as we go along.

What if I don't like it?

Counselling can be an uncomfortable experience. It may be that you need to go through a period of discomfort or even pain to come out the other side feeling better. However, it can also be enlightening and exciting. If you feel uncomfortable with the sessions then the most useful thing to do is to talk about it. It may be that we can find a different way of working or that you actually feel more comfortable once your doubts have been expressed.

Will I feel judged?

This is a very common and understandable fear about counselling. Many of us do feel judged in our day to day lives by the people around us so how will counselling be any different? What if the counsellor doesnt like me or thinks I am a bad/selfish/crazy/ungrateful person when I tell them what I really think?

In my opinion this is one of the most important differences between a good counsellor and a good friend. A good counsellor uses their training to put any personal opinions or bias to one side and to focus completely on you and your unique, personal experience. I aim not to judge, but to listen, observe and try very hard to understand you and what makes you tick.
